Hiya writers,
Did you ever see the movie The Pursuit of
Happyness? In the film, based on a true story, Will
Smith plays a homeless single father who is trying to get
his shit together so that he can give his son the home and
the life that he deserves. In the early part of the movie,
Will Smith's character Chris Gardner spends an inordinate
amount of time trying to sell a medical device that not many
people want but the sale of which can pay for shelter for
him and his son. Every day, he gets up and makes calls, knocks
on doors, and tries to sell the device. And he does not stop
until the damn thing is sold. Your book is like that medical device. You
don't need hundreds of people to bid on it. You just need
the one person to see its value and to invest in it. You
don't need to have hundreds of options. You just need to
focus on getting that one agent and that one publisher.
Of course, as an independent writer, your
options go far beyond that in terms of indie publishing and
not to mention that you can write more books, sell article
ideas, get content marketing clients, and so much more.
But if you're in the process of finding an
agent and selling a book, remember, at this stage, you do
not need the whole world to recognize your masterpiece.
You need one agent who recognizes your
talent. You need one editor who offers to buy it.
And you need to be that one writer who does
not stop until it is sold.
Cheers,
Mridu
