Do you have a poor mindset?

What's the difference between a rich mindset and a poor mindset?

The difference can be shockingly simple — though the way it manifests in our lives takes on many forms. Basically, it's the same as the difference between an abundance mindset versus a scarcity mindset.

Those with a rich mindset believe in abundance and therefore act as though plenty of resources will always be available.

Those with a poor mindset operate as though scarcity is the name of the game and always will be. The size of the pie is fixed.

Now, it's important to note that we're not talking about the difference between rich people and poor people. We're only talking about the differences between a rich and a poor mindset.

A rich person can have a poor mindset which can keep them from ever achieving their full potential of wealth; and a poor person can have a rich mindset which is a key component to building a path towards upward mobility and wealth.

Which mindset do you have? You might think you know — but some of the details about the differences between these two mindsets could surprise you.

Getting Deep Into the Rich Mindset

Here's how these differences might play out in your life. As you'll soon see, the comparisons go far beyond just money. And it bears repeating, this is the difference between rich mindset and poor mindset — not rich people versus poor people:

The rich mindset is resourceful. It's all about using money to do things that can lead you to making more money, whether that be education, starting a business, or even building for the next generation of a family.

The rich mindset does what it can to build momentum. Spending time and resources on investments and activities that will pay off over the long haul. The poor mindset, on the other hand, is more focused on the now and trades hours for dollars and believing using limited resources for the future is pointless.

The rich mindset believes in investments. And that doesn't mean just stocks. Whether it's investing in ways to grow money or grow intelligence and opportunities, the rich mindset puts time and money to work. The poor mindset isn't willing to put time or money into something that doesn't clearly net immediate gains.

The rich mindset believes in building relationships and growing others. The poor mindset, again focused on immediate returns, trades favors and can be competitive towards those who reach more success more quickly.

The rich mindset views money logically as a tool. And focuses on how to use that tool. The poor mindset views money emotionally as evil or unfair.

The rich mindset believes that there's always more to learn, embraces competition, and knows when to quit strategically. The poor mindset believes it already knows all there is to know, is discouraged by competition, and quits as a reaction to frustration.

It's in the numbers

Among wealthy people, 88 percent read 30 minutes or more every day

Wealthy people avoid overspending and save 20 percent of their net income.

Every year, 70 percent of the wealthy set and pursue at least one major goal.

The 5-to-1 ratio is right: You should listen to others five minutes for every one minute that you speak.

Another Way to Consider These Mindsets

For anyone who knows the work of psychologist and Stanford professor Carol Dweck, the difference between a rich and poor, or scarcity and abundance, mindset looks like another popular mindset comparison:

That of the fixed versus growth mindset.

Brainpickings shares Dweck's chart showing the difference between these two mindsets:

Notice a theme here?

Compare money to intelligence as something that's limited or growable, and you'll see that the fixed mindset is nearly the same as scarcity, while the growth mindset is nearly the same as abundance.

For the fixed mindset, or the scarcity mindset, money is finite.

If you manage to get it, you have to do whatever you can to hold onto it. But that can prevent you from taking on challenges or opportunities to grow, as they could be deemed to risky. The idea of losing whatever money you have isn't worth taking chances to grow it.

On the flip side, the growth mindset, or the abundance mindset, thinks there's plenty to go around and welcomes challenges with the understanding that they can rebuild anything they lost.

When you get a minute...

The Most Important Thing to Know About the Rich vs. Poor Mindset

Are you ready for this? Your mindset can be changed.

If you find yourself stuck in a poor mindset, you don't have to be stuck there forever. But you can't change anything until you free yourself from the emotional chains this mindset has put you in.

An article in the New York Times delves into controversial comments on poverty made in the past Ben Carson when he said poverty is a state of mind. In this article, the author quotes behavioral scientist Eldar Shafir on one of the most profound problems with sentiments like this one:

"… the mental toll of poverty can be worse in America than in other wealthy countries precisely because of views endorsed by leaders like Mr. Carson: 'That's part of the mind-set: When I'm poor here, I'm not just poor, I also failed somehow,' Mr. Shafir said."

Feelings of failure can quickly lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy, just as a scarcity mindset does. If we feel that we've failed, we might struggle to find motivation to achieve success, because we assume we'll just fail again. And then we do — simply because we didn't try not to.

Want to break free from these chains? Practice believing that you can — keep saying to yourself until you mean it. Keep taking steps towards a higher goal even before you believe you'll get there. It will be hard. It will probably take longer than you want. And it might be a fake it until you make it feeling.

But you're much more likely to make it if you open that door. Otherwise, the scarcity mindset will slam the door to your dreams shut.

Real estate investing isn't as hard as it sounds.

Rental property can be a great player in your overall investment strategy, an excellent way to build wealth and a great way to diversify your portfolio. Not to mention there are amazing tax benefits.

These days it's much more accessible then it used to be. With as little as $500 dollars you can dip your toes in the real estate market with Fundrise.

There are a number of ways to invest in real estate with any amount of money and time commitment. Here we will talk about our favorite two.

We personally invest in both and have seen excellent returns.

Preserving Wealth vs. Building Wealth

Your money is getting decent returns in the stock market, so why invest it in real estate market? It just seems riskier and a ton more work, right?

Well, just like diversifying your investments in the stock market, it is also important to have diversification in your portfolio as a whole.

Investing in the stock market is great over the long term for reaching future goals like retirement. It preserves your money by providing small gains over many years protecting your money from inflation.

However, most of us will not get rich investing in the stock market alone.

You can grow existing money in the market but it's not going to generate a meaningful income for you, passively. That's where real estate investing comes in.

Owning real estate is like running a passive income business. It provides an excellent and for the most part reliable income stream.

You can choose to be as hands off or as hands-on as you want throughout the whole process. There are companies that handle it all from soup to nuts. All you will need to provide is your John Hancock.

Investing in real estate without buying a property.

Maybe you don't have the time or the funds to invest in a single or multifamily home but that doesn't mean you can't get into real estate investing.

Fundrise is a crowdfunded platform that allows average investors access to the commercial real estate market with as little as $500. They pool investments from many investors and invest on their behalf in opportunities that would otherwise be difficult or overly expensive to find or access.

They do a good job of explaining how it works in this video.

fundrise

If you are interested in getting started, we wrote a review of the Fundrise here. And if you have any question, we're here to answer them.

RealtyShares, much like Fundrise, is also a crowdfunded platform. The main difference is RealtyShares focuses on the residential real estate market. That's normal homes instead of medium to large size buildings.

RealtyShares also acts more like Lending Club, only you pick individual properties/deals you want to invest in. With Fundrise it's all a bit more automated under an eREIT and you just invest in general areas instead of specific deals. This is our review of RealtyShares.

"Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing" - Warren Buffett

If your looking for something a little more hands on...

These are companies that handle it all from soup to nuts. You can buy a turnkey property with tenants and a property manager in place before you close.

Roofstock: Want to armchair the entire purchase and management process of a rental property yet still take all of the gain? That's Roofstock. Laura and I own three properties through them and we couldn't have enjoyed the process more.

You can also choose your own team with Roofstock although they provide you with awesome recommendations every step of the way.

If you want to learn about our experience, read our review (our interview with the CEO).

Memphis Invest: While we haven't actually invested with these guys, we've heard amazing things (they're pretty popular). Unlike Roofstock, they don't really have a digital platform, you also need to commit to them managing your property.

You need to first understand the entire rental property investing process.

Before we bought our first property, we did a ton of research. It's one thing to invest $500 in Fundrise and it's another to drop $25,000+ on a full rental property.

We took everything we learned and created a few awesome resources to help answer all your questions. If you're seriously interested in growing passive income and investing in rental properties then you need to read or listen to our Investment Property 101 series:

About to buy but need some advice?

You should seriously check out our private (free) Facebook Community. It's awesome, your welcome.

😲😲😲How I Made $1025.77 in Sales on Shopify as a Newbie😲😲😲

When you first start out blogging, you have this idea that making money will be easy.

I mean, that's what all the blogging courses say, right?

"I made 3k in my first month of blogging!"

"Skyrocket your pageviews!"

Whatever the promise of blogging courses out there...most bloggers work...HARD for the money. It's a hustle. Don't let anyone tell you different! (That's why I love Paul Scrivens because he cuts to the chase...no messing around).

Most bloggers make money in a few obvious ways:

  • Ads (which require a lot of pageviews)
  • Sponsored posts (which usually happen after blogging for a while)
  • Products (which people buy only if they find your site)

And while pageviews were easy to come by in 2005 when blogging really started being a thing and only a few bloggers were competing, today there are about a bajillion blogs. And you have to really know how to stand out to make the cut.

One of the biggest ways things that I've learned in my 10+ years of blogging, is that there is a REASON why the big bloggers promote certain products...because they work (not to mention they are usually affiliates for that product).

If you want good conversions for your email sign ups...Lead Pages.

If you want good open rates...Convert Kit.

If you want products to sell...Shopify.

And if you want a good case study to see if having a shop with Shopify really makes difference...take mine! I've had an estore since 2011. During that time, I sold about $20 a year. Seriously. I don't know why I couldn't convert. I tried everything. Ads. Popups. Social media marketing.

Maybe my products sucked. I don't think they do...but it's possible!

I kept seeing information about Shopify. After discussing it with my husband, I took the leap. I decided to shell out the $30/month and see if it made a difference.

And I was really doubtful...I mean, it looked the same, what could be different about it!? An online store, is an online stone...is an online store.

Boy! I was wrong.

The first week, I made $25.99...compare that to $20 a year previously...um, what?

How I Made $1025.77 in Sales on Shopify as a Newbie

October 2018: First Seven Days - $25.99

These were the SAME PDF downloads I always offered!

What even! It had to be the platform. I didn't change anything else.

That got me excited. So I started branching out. Promoting a little more. That's when things started really taking off.

November 2018: Month 2 - 249.11

You want to know what I made in 30 days of starting my store? $249.11!!!!

Okay, something was different with this new platform. I don't know if Shopify has sprinkled some magic dust on their platform...but whatever it is...it's working.

My old platform didn't offer any of these results OR the analytics!

Also...my old platform wasn't dynamic. I had to create each product page. YUCK! (And many times I failed to do this). Most times customers want to really look at a product closeup and I think I underestimated the fact that customers like to have a certain order of operations to their shopping experience.

And they like to see the secure HTTPS at the top (which Shopify offers for free).

PS. I did try Volusion and really wanted to like them because they are in my town of Austin, Texas...but they didn't compare in ease and use. And they didn't offer the things Shopify does.

December 2018: Month 3 - 249.94

The third month was the same thing..$294.94.

I also decided to launch into physical products based on my customer polls...head coverings (if you didn't know Christian head covering is a thing!) Launching out into physical products is scary stuff!

I used some of the tactics I learned in Elite Blog Academy, I launched my products via a series of emails with an overwhelmingly good response for this newbie! The formatting provided by EBA was seriously easy to follow and made me soooo excited.

Many people have PDFs, but I enjoy the idea of selling actual things as well. I learned a lot from a failed jewelry business we owned once. I'll have to write a blog post about that one day. But let's just say, you can't just sell things to make money...you really have to believe in a product and be passionate about it for the long haul.

Oh...and you have to have a story behind it all...I promise, storytelling is the KEY to selling things!

January 2019: Month 4 - $28.92

Like most sales, January sales dipped down pretty low. Everyone is skimping and saving after Christmas..and honestly, I wasn't promoting much because I was dealing with a house full of the flu!

My sales were only $28.92...but again that's without doing much of anything...and it was better than my usual $0/month sales with my previous platform (RIP WP Tips & Tricks).

But don't worry...it goes up again in February!

February 2019: Month 5 - $151.46

I started added more physical products to my store and using Pinterest more to promote them. I was able to have physical products via dropshipping AND my own products that are at my location...there's a lot of things I learned...some the hard way. I'll write a blog post on that soon!

Another one of the things I realized in February was most of my audience didn't even know I had a store.

These are my TRUE FANS...and they weren't even buying yet! The people that were purchasing from me were simply people who randomly found me online from Pinterest.

I started focusing on promoting to MY OWN AUDIENCE to increase sales. DUH!

Also, you can see that from the previous month, the average amount spent is also going up. I installed a plugin to capture lost sales...and it seemed to be working.

March 2019: Month 6 - $124.97

I saw a little dip in my sales this month and I have to say...it's my fault.

Remember that plugin that I installed to remind people to finish their purchase? I was stingy and didn't want to pay the $8/month so I cancelled it...and it show! I had a lot more unfinished sales this month.

But I decided during this month that I would change my business model and focus on only dropshipped tees that I designed and were shipped within the US. I have a couple items I dropship from China, but they are from a reliable source that I've tested multiple times.

The reason I dropship my tees is because I'm not ready to make a large sum investment in inventory. So, I use Printful to print my designs. You can see them on my shop or on my live videos!

I'm looking to change that ASAP, because honestly there is NOT a lot of money made on each shirt after Printful takes a cut...but baby steps, right?

April 2019: Month 7 (NOT EVEN A FULL MONTH) - $195.38

This month I refocused on selling my printables because that's the absolute easiest way to make passive income (and has almost a 0% return rate...cuz they are digital products...unlike physical stuff!)

I launched a Christian Resource Library so that people can access my digital products for less money than they are all together...partly because I want people to READ them!

I started it at a low price for current subscribers and to get reviews (oh...did I mention I have a plugin for reviews on my store?), but plan on increasing the price in May 2019.

Overview - $1025.77

All in all, I've been really pleased with the Shopify platform. I'm still learning and adding products.

My goals for my main blog (RadicalChristianWoman) have changed a little because of my online store. I really enjoy selling products I can stand behind. I always think about the verse in Proverbs 31:18 that says:

She perceives that her merchandise is good. Proverbs 31:18a

I think it's important that we feel good about what we sell...as much as I loved adding products to my store that were dropshipped from China because it made my store 'full'...it didn't feel good. I constantly worried if they were good quality even though I DID test/research the store/product...I just always wondered. I didn't feel I was in control.

I hope this story/income report has encouraged you to start a store. I plan on adding more information about Shopify, so make sure you sign up for my email list to get updates (scroll down)!

Final Note

Don't forget to tithe off your income!

The best part about being a successful Christian entrepreneur is giving back to Jesus!

On my shop, I sell scarves that support an Indian missionary and I get to send money to one of my favorite ministries!

Admin pls post this for me but keep me

some years ago I was working with a multinational
company back in nigeria as a top executive, due to
my fathers connection, my commitment to work
and my good grades from college I stood out as
the company favorite staff. Am a lady am 34yrs
now
As a top executives I was entighted to an official
car and some incentives which really place us
above all junior staff but as the norm in every
working organization no law put you above any
worker so therefore we are meant to mentain
mutual respect.
So among our staff heirrachy to the bottom staff are
clearners and gardners,
so there this guy " Emeka" whom was among the
cleaners very hardworking but he is not a graduate,
he was fonds of me and he compliment me at all
times, I didn't decrimate him as a junior staff even
though am his boss "am a marketing managing
director of the company" and sometime he runs
errands me and for some other senior staff too.
So after some years in Nigeria as a top executives I
was transfer to Germany to rusume work at the
company head quarters in Germany.
Last months I went out to get some stuff for the
weekend at a mall in Frankfurt and to my surprise I
bump into "Emeke" my company former clearner he
was so happy to see me and same with me too,
that day he was in a hurry so there was no time to
talk we only exchange contact.
So a week later we hang out and we discuss at
length and he brought the old memories back and
now he is doing fine for himself and he is much
more responsible.
After that one date we become really close,he
invited me to his apartment and we hang out a lot.
The issue now is that he is asking me to be his
wife and that he cares about me and would love to
spend the rest of his life with me. I just don't know
how poeple will feel about the all thing that i finally
got married to my company former cleaner and
errand boy, pls is anything wrong in that.
Pls guys/ladies i need your matured advice on what

WHO IS DEMOS SHAKARIAN?
Demos Shakarian was the founder of
FGBMFI.
Demos Shakarian
The Wikipedia entry on Shakarian writes
about him in a favorable light, stating:
“Shakarian used his organizational
abilities to facilitate evangelistic
campaigns, in particularly working
with Charles S. Price . Other
evangelists at his events
included Tommy
Hicks and William
Branham and Oral Roberts .
Shakarian spent most of his adult
life building the Fellowship for
free. Even honorariums that were
given to him at speaking
engagements he would deposit
them back into the ministry. Every
year at the annual board meeting
he would resign his position as
president step out into the hall
and allow the 200 man board to
vote in their president that serve
for the next year. They would
always vote him in, nonetheless
this speaks volumes to the
character of this godly man. The
Fellowship grew into over 190
countries. Hundreds of other
ministries were birthed from the
Fellowship. Shakarian played a
key role in working with Paul
Crouch to help launch TBN . Joel
Osteen’s ministry started from his
father John Osteen. Shakarian
played a key role in saving that
ministry in the early days. When
John was removed as a pastor
due to his beliefs in
the Pentecostal
movementShakarian [sic]
immediately caught a flight to be
with John, convinced him not to
quit but to start his own ministry
wherein Shakarian funded the
launching of John’s first tent
meeting. “

It is also important to recognize in the above
information that Shakarian was responsible
for helping financially launch John Osteen into
ministry, the father of Joel Osteen. Shakarian
was responsible for helping Paul Crouch
launch TBN, Crouch even endorsing the
ministry of William Branham early in TBN
days.
Demos Shakarian was no small player in
establishing the NOLR’s leaders in the
construction of the Charismatic Renewal
Movement (CRM). You can even tell in their
mission statement
To end, we will let the FGBMFI website give
voice to their origins:

Sandals Instead of Sponsorships: The Sseko Story

Behind the fair-trade company that’s helping
educate women in Uganda.
KATE SHELLNUTT
Image: Sseko Designs
Earlier this month, a Facebook friend
posted about shopping for strappy spring
sandals. Despite similar styles catching
her eye at Old Navy and Madewell, she
opted to pay more for a pair from Sseko
Designs, a company that ensures
workers a fair wage and supports
college-bound women in East Africa. “I
guess I'll have to spend more so that my
dollar does something more,” she said.
As Sseko founder and CEO Liz Forkin
Bohannon sees it, one purchase or even
one company isn’t going to do much to
change the world, but social enterprises
give shoppers like this one the option to
spend in a way aligns with their values
about women, work, and dignity.
“Just buying a pair of sandals, a
meaningless thing you would have done
anyway, has now become a tangible way

Sandals Instead of
Sponsorships: The Sseko
Story
Behind the fair-trade company that’s helping
educate women in Uganda.
KATE SHELLNUTT

Earlier this month, a Facebook friend
posted about shopping for strappy spring
sandals. Despite similar styles catching
her eye at Old Navy and Madewell, she
opted to pay more for a pair from Sseko
Designs, a company that ensures
workers a fair wage and supports
college-bound women in East Africa. “I
guess I'll have to spend more so that my
dollar does something more,” she said.
As Sseko founder and CEO Liz Forkin
Bohannon sees it, one purchase or even
one company isn’t going to do much to
change the world, but social enterprises
give shoppers like this one the option to
spend in a way aligns with their values
about women, work, and dignity.
“Just buying a pair of sandals, a
meaningless thing you would have done
anyway, has now become a tangible way
to manifest a belief that you have about
the world,” she said in an interview with
Her.meneutics.

My showstopper competition piece at Cakeology
2018
A mammoth task I'd undertaken considering it was
a showstopper. I'd tried to incorporate as many
different techniques as possible to bring the central
concept to life.
Stories are such a big part of our culture.
Mythology, sacred texts, history are all written or
told in the form of stories. These stories are
manifest in the various art forms all over India. And
Krishna is one such Icon who has influenced every
art form in every part of the country.
LEELA
Krish~na - The dark one, the all attractive one or
the absolute truth !
No Indian art or craft is complete without a
magnificient display of the Krishna consciousness.
Whether it is the Temple Sculptures or traditional art
forms, like Tanjore, Kerala Mural art, Kalamkari,
Patachitrakatha, granite sculptures of Karnataka,
Cheriyal of Telangana or Rajasthan miniatures, even
the Bishnupur depiction of krishna leelas into
weaving of Sarees, you name it, there is no native
art or folk form without a Krishna theme.
Over many centuries Krishna has become an
integral part of the Hindu society, as much as the
Bhagawat Geetha & Mahabharatha. Painting, music,
dance, and theater were the visual, aural and kinetic
counterparts of this powerful and all pervasive
movement, the "Krishnatattva ".
It has captured the imagination of artists from
different geographic regions of this subcontinent,
divided by huge variations in regional and local
subcultures, a diversity that is so integral to the
Indian society, yet united by universally adopting
this theme of Krishna into their own culture.
Today this theme is being extended and adopted to
the cake art form too, for the sheer opulence,
vibrancy, variation & cheerfulness it depicts, a
celebration of life itself, so colourful, integrating &
embracing all forms of life into its fold, that it can
only be truly representative of a universal
consciousness of love, truthfulness, righteousness,
pragmatism and worldly wisdom.
**All the techniques used are explained in the
individual photos
Unfortunately there were some areas which I
couldn't finish in time and they remained
underworked.

If at age 30, you're not yet married, and you're still
waiting for one man somewhere to come and marry
you before you can start living your life....
This may sound harsh, but
....you're being mean.
1. You're being mean for letting yourself down and
not taking proper care of and enjoying the one life
God gave you. For letting your life be a source of
discouragement to others who will go through
similar life's challenges and delays.
2. You're being mean for denying your family and
friends and those in your sphere of influence,
months of unique assistance and testimonies with
the impact you would've made by being your best
self and living your best life now.
3. You're being mean for being passive and just
letting this life happen to you and allowing the
streams of life carry you along with those dead
woods whose life stories and Testimonies paint the
picture of a God who's both callous and unjust.
4. You're being mean for not believing in your
potentials to get a life for yourself thereby
positioning yourself to be a potential heavy
baggage awaiting someone else's son who himself
may also be praying for a suitable helper.
5. You'll continue to be mean to yourself and others
if you'll not decide today to alter the course of 2019
by taking the pen of life from the hands of your
enemies and writing your story by yourself so
others can see the light of life through you.
May God help you.

This has always intrigued me since I have always
been an artist and an illustrator. I am very visual in
conversation and memory since I was very young. I
wonder if most children have the same thing? Do
we loose that ability as we grow up? Story telling
has been used by ancient man and painting on cave
walls was another way of telling a story. Children's
books illustrate stories. Do children visualize easily
when listening to a story? Many adults have a hard
time listening to a conversation and retaining what
had been said.

I think I was rescued as an abandoned child by the
world of folk tales. Knowing that the youngest, the
poorest and the weakest can become a winner
stayed with me. We were very poor and i had this
one story book what I was reading again and again,
" The 77 Hungarian Folktales". As a therapist I have
been reading legends folk tales, particularly to
Aboriginal children. They seems to have a real
appreciation of the morals of the stories.

Dr. Dan Siegel
Parents know how powerful storytelling can be when
it comes to distracting their kids or calming them
down, but most people don't realize the science
behind this powerful force. The right side of our
brain processes our emotions and autobiographical
memories, but our left side is what makes sense of
these feelings and recollections. Healing from a
difficult experiences emerges when the left side
works with the right to tell our life stories.
When children learn to pay attention and to share
their own stories they can respond in healthy ways
to everything from a scraped elbow to a major loss
or trauma.

AAC PARTY

Posted: 09 May 2019 09:08 AM PDT

Press Statement: Dissolution of the Lagos Executive
Committee of AAC
On the 8th day of May 2019, members of the Lagos
State Branch of the African Action Congress (AAC)
converged at the state secretariat of the Party and
passed a successful motion of no-confidence on
the existing leadership of the Party in the State, and
subsequently set up a Caretaker Committee. This
step was in consonance with the provisions of the
Party's constitution under sections 76(4) and 78.
The Caretaker Committee will work in active
collaboration with the national body of the African
Action Congress (AAC) to effectively bring the
values and beliefs of the Party to the people of
Lagos, and to actualise a true revolutionary change
that has been elusive in Lagos since the return of
democracy in 1999.
The Caretaker Committee is constituted as captured
below:
Adekunle Ajayi – Chairman
Tope Gbeke - Deputy Chairman
Omolara Alagbala - Women Leader
Banwo Olagokun – Organising Secretary
Moyo Adekanmbi - Financial Secretary
Jamiu Jamo Towolawi – Secretary
Musa Oluwasheyi – Treasurer
Ayinde Olawale - Youth Leader
Elias Ozikpu – Publicity Secretary
The Committee will remain active until fresh
elections are conducted at the AAC Lagos State
Congress slated to hold in October of 2019.
We ask the people of Lagos to throw the full weight
of their support behind AAC, as the Party works to
collaborate with them to wrestle Lagos from the
resolute grip of the oppressors after twenty
disastrous years.
The time is now!
Take It Back!
Signed:
Elias Ozikpu
Publicity Secretary, African Action Congress, Lagos

Morning Tea

Posted: 09 May 2019 09:07 AM PDT

MORNING TEA. THE WORD
FOR TODAY
TUESDAY MAY 7, 2019.
"ENCOURAGEMENT FOR SINGLE PARENTS"
"Lift the boy up and take him by the hand…for I will
make him…great."
Genesis 21:18 NIV
WHEN YOU read the story of Hagar and her son
Ishmael, you realize how much God cares about
single parents. Although Abraham was Ishmael's
father, he sent the boy and his mother away without
child support: "[He] took some food and a skin of
water …gave them to Hagar…and…sent her off…She
went on her way and wandered in the desert" (v. 14
NIV). In many ways Hagar typifies those who walk
through the desert of past mistakes, shame,
abandonment, and fear of starting over. The Bible
tells us when "the water in the skin was gone, she
put the boy under one of the bushes. Then she…
sat…about a bowshot away [50-60 feet], for she
thought, 'I cannot watch the boy die.' And…she
began to sob." (vv. 15-16 NIV). As a single parent
you may be tired and lonely. Humanly speaking,
you've done the best you can with what you have,
but you've nothing left to give. The good news is
God's divine resources are inexhaustible: "He gives
strength to the weary and increases the power of
the weak" (Isaiah 40:29 NIV). "God heard the boy
crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from
heaven…'Lift the boy up…I will make him…great'…
Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of
water" (Genesis 21:17-19 NIV). God loves your
child even more than you do, and when you turn to
Him, He'll show you a "well of water" you never
knew existed. He has plans for your children, so
encourage them and lift them up. The God who
made Hagar's child "great" can do the same for
yours!
