Hey Jesus Bloggers,
Are you a one woman show?
Do you do the social media, the writing, the editing, the promoting, and the design for your blog?
If so, can I tell you a secret?
Me, too.
Can I tell you another secret?
There are millions of us.
One more secret?
If you are a one woman show you have GOT to STOP trying to get "team" results when it's just you. Especially, if you are responsible for any of the following items:
- Husband
- Kids
- Home
- Homeschooling
- Job
- Any kind of regular volunteer work
I'm not trying to give you an "out" or tell you to quit trying, but HELLO! Have you been beating yourself and saying, "WHY AM I NOT LIKE [*insert famous blogger here*]? when [famous blogger] has a team of 20?
STAAAAPPPP it!!!
Like for realz, yo.
At my house, I have seven kids that I homeschool. Babies, toddlers, tweens and teens. When I finally get the littles into bed, the teens come out of hiding "to talk" because, ya know...it's finally quiet and they can get mom's attention.
But that's blogging time! Don't they get it? (Short answer: No.)
Give them 30 minutes to tell me how such-n-such did such-n-such and how that made the feel and I think I'm free. Nope. Somebody always needs something.
Now understand there are rules/schedules they have to abide by and for the most part they do and I DO get the blogging done. But these little people NEED ME. And they only have ONE mommy in this world. And I'm it. Sorry, they win.
With those kids, we have a house. One that I would like to look like a Pinterest abode. Complete with Instagram-wispy walls and a hanging wicker basket chair please.
But I can't have it all...unless I have a maid...which brings me back to blogging because I can't have a maid unless I'm making the Benjamins.
So, ignore the house. Kiss the kids and say a prayer one last time. And get my blog on.
Whew!
Does this resonate with anyone?
While I do run one fairly successful blog and a handful of minor blogs (like Jesus Blogger) it's been an upward battle to make time for blogging and therefore money blogging.
Ten years to be exact. No one like to talk about this, right? The dark ages of blogging. Or at least the personal dark ages of my personal blogging experience. Everyone wants to focus on the highlights of the blogging experience. No one is talking about all the many bloggers out there who are "living the life" at the expense of their children. Mommy blogging constantly ABOUT the kids..but not really living life WITH the kids.
Does anyone else worry that in 20 years there will be a slew of biographies written by the grown children of "mommy bloggers" who finally tell exactly how NOT FUN their mommy was (as opposed to what is seen now)?
The Bible says that EVERYTHING will one day come to light.
And I'm sorry...I don't want my children to be one of those who write a salacious true story about me!
Okay, so back to the point. If you are a one woman show. Please don't kill yourself (or your family) over producing results that are only available to those who have the time/money to hire a team to do everything for them.
Work steady. Listen to God. Keep blogging.
I may be ten years too late...but last month I finally made $2k off my blog. It's not a fortune. But I can at least confidently say that I didn't sacrifice anyone on the alter of blogging. Not my relationship with God and not my relationship with my husband or kids.
I'm not saying that EVERY big blogger is a horrible person or ignoring their children. I really am not. I'm just trying to make sure YOU and ME honor God on all fronts. Blogging included.
