🌱🌱Is This Why Your Blog Isn't Growing? Part 1🌱🌱

Hey Jesus Blogger!

The LORD has been tugging on my heart to email you.

I was sitting out on my red porch swing in the Texas heat with my cup of coffee (yes, I drink hot coffee in 90 degree weather) just praying. And suddenly I knew what the LORD wanted to say to all you who blog your little hearts out for Jesus.

Some of you want your blogs to grow but aren't seeing growth. You're pushing hard. Doing all the things. But nothing.

This is what the LORD spoke to me.

CUT OUT THE NOISE.

He continued to show me (and convict me in my own life) that so many times we are caught up listening to all the NOISE in this world instead of the HOLY SPIRIT.

We aren't spending time in the Word like we spend time doing other things. Other things like:

  • Reading all the latest blogs about blogging
  • Watching all the podcasts
  • Pinning all the pins
  • Going to all the conferences
  • Talking all the blog talk
  • Reading all the tweets about the latest Google/Pinterest whistle blowers or playing too much Gin Rummy

Okay, that last one was my personal issue. 🀣🀣

But in all seriousness, we need to STOP listening to all the words of man and start listening to the Words of God. We need to create a sacred space to refresh and recharge our own souls before we step out to empower others. We need to stop filling every single last second with our blogging to-do list and just sit at Jesus' feet and soak in the stillness of his presence.

There is enough noise in this world. Your blog can either add to the incessant noise or it can be a reprieve from the chaos.

But we cannot reflect what we aren't experiencing.

You have spend time with God in order to teach others how to know Him.

Also, we can't live off of yesterday's prayers.

I read this verse in Leviticus 19 yesterday:

When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted.

There are different types of sacrifices -- this verse is talking about the fellowship offering -- which was an offering given completely of the free will. And unlike the burnt offering which was completely consumed by fire, the fellowship offering was eaten by the people to signify peace and future prosperity.

It's like this: you give your animal to God, then you get to eat it. And God is pleased.

What a bargain! I eat something that was already mine and God is happy with me!?

Pass me some lamb, please!

But notice, after the second day...eating lamb es no bueno.

Just like the lamb, our vigor and power from our time spent with Jesus doesn't last long. We might get two days worth of energy...but if you haven't spent time with Jesus by Day 3...your operating on fumes.

And how do you think that affects your blog?

Furthermore...if you've asked God to bless you, guide you, and mold you into the blogger He wants you to be...don't for a second think you can do all the things others bloggers do and be successful without spending time WITH Him.

Other non-Jesus bloggers might find success without Jesus...but not you. Nope. You are called to a higher standard.

Spin your little wheels if you like...but God is saying, "Stop all the spinning. Cut out all the noise. Listen to me."

And until you spend regular time with Jesus....all your blogging is like the sacrifice eaten on the third day: Impure. Unacceptable.

Don't let all your hard work go to waste like that!

God says at the end of time, he'll call some of our works "gold" and some "hay/rubble."

I imagine some of us bloggers will look over and see the same "works" in some other blogger's "gold" pile while our works are sitting in the "rubble" pile. We are going to be like, "What's up with that God? That doesn't seem right?"

And God's going to say, "The difference is that they waited for me to call them to that blogging work. You ran ahead without me and did it all by yourself."

OUCH.

The result of running ahead of God -- listening to all the noise -- is confusion, bitterness and anger and loss. Entering into a vacuum-space with Jesus results in peace and joy and gain.

How long has it been since you blogged WITH Jesus and not just ABOUT Jesus?

Could this be a reason you're not seeing blog growth?

This email isn't trying to guilt you into spending time with the LORD, but rather to remind you that when you spend time with the LORD, it's like the fellowship offering: you get to eat...and please God. You both get something out of it. It's not a one-way street. Spending time with the LORD ultimately blesses you and your blog, while pleasing Him.

Maybe you're reading this and thinking, "But, I AM spending time with Jesus everyday! And my blog STILL isn't growing. What am I doing wrong?"

If that's you, don't worry...my next email tomorrow will give you another special word that the LORD has been speaking into my heart for three years on this very topic!
