Normalized trouble

Normalizing Abortion: Not If, But
Wen
Her mom was the candidate behind the most
radical pro-abortion shift in the Democratic Party.
Now, Chelsea Clinton wants everyone to know -- we
haven't seen anything yet.
In an interview sure to put Americans' jaws on the
floor, Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen sat
down with Bill and Hillary's daughter and talked
about abortion as casually as if they were
comparing laundry detergents. This procedure --
this gruesome, deadly, wildly unpopular procedure --
Chelsea argued, "is part of the fabric of our
country." Wen agreed, saying that we should
approach this kind of health care "from a social
justice lens, valuing each person and their choice."
Unless, of course, that person happens to be inside
the womb -- or seconds out of it.
In one of the sickest, most bizarre moments of
their chat (and there were plenty), Wen had the gall
to argue that killing children is actually "pro-life."
"Our nurses," she went on, "our clinicians -- they're
all here because we believe in life. Being pro-choice
is being pro-woman. It's being pro-family. It's being
pro-community. It's being pro-life." Whose life, no
one is quite sure since the organization ended
332,757 of them in 2017 alone. That's like wiping
out the population of St. Louis. Suddenly, the "fabric
of our country" looks like a massive pile of burial
clothes.
But Wen and Clinton persisted -- ignoring the
overwhelming majority of Americans (77 percent )
disgusted by their extreme positions. "First and
foremost, it's about our safety. We know what
happens when abortion is illegal." But do they know
what happens when abortion is legal? When groups
like theirs fight to keep monsters like Kermit
Gosnell in business? Don't talk to us about safety
when thousands of women are visiting third-world
clinics with rusty instruments and blood-stained
floors because Planned Parenthood is trying to stop
state inspections and regulations. Thanks to Wen's
organization, most moms are sitting in abortion
clinics that are less regulated than a tanning salon.
Legal doesn't make it safe. Planned Parenthood has
seen to that.

Make
a Plan for Your Money

By Rick Warren — January 18,
2019

"The wise man looks ahead. The fool
attempts to fool himself and won't face facts"
(Proverbs 14:8 TLB).
Money is a tool to be used for God's purposes. We're
not to hoard it. We're not to stockpile it. We're not to
worship it. We're to use
it! We can use temporary resources—what God has put in our
hands—for permanent good.
In Luke 16, Jesus turned the dishonest but shrewd manager
into the hero. The manager knew he was going to be fired, so
he decided to make some
friends by lowering the debts owed to his master.
What did Jesus like about this guy? The man was
dishonest, but he did three things right, and those three
things reveal lessons that God wants you
to learn and apply to your finances.
The manager looked ahead.
Most people never look ahead when it comes to their
finances. We're not saving anything, and that's not
smart.
Proverbs 14:8 says, "The wise man looks ahead. The
fool attempts to fool himself and won't face facts"
(TLB).
The manager made a plan.
How do you know if you've got a financial plan? It's
really simple: Do you have a budget? A budget is simply
planned spending. A budget tells
your money where you want it to go rather than wondering
where it went. You've got to have a plan.
The Bible says in Proverbs 16:9, "We should make
plans—counting on God to direct us" (TLB).
The manager acted quickly.
Luke 16:4 says, "I know how to ensure that I'll
have plenty of friends who will give me a home when I am
fired" (NLT).
The manager didn't procrastinate; he didn't delay. He
set his plan in motion. He didn't say, "Someday I'm
going to get my finances in
order" or "Someday I'm going to start saving for
retirement."
Jesus didn't commend the manager's dishonesty but his
attitude, which said, "I'm going to think ahead. I'm
going to make a plan. And
I'm going to invest in relationships that will benefit
others and me in the future."
That's smart! And Jesus wants you to do the same when
it comes to your finances. Are you spending your treasure
here on Earth or looking ahead
and storing up treasure in heaven?PLAY

The speaker

The Speaker of Anambra State House of
Assembly, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili, has
commissioned a water project sunk by her
for the Mmaju/Chiekwilo inhabitants of
Okpoko, in Ogbaru Local Government Area
of Anambra State.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Nwaebili
urged them to develop a good maintenance
culture over the project, so that they will
benefit maximally from it.
She charged them to vote massively for
APGA, for being a pace setter in the
transformation agenda of the state.
The Speaker who explained that the aim of
the project was not to commercialize it
rather it should be for the benefit of all,
promised to donate a transformer to the
community before the election.
In his speech, the member representing
Ogbaru 1in the State House of Assembly,
Hon. Benson Nwawulu, thanked the Speaker
for her magnanimity to the people of the
area, and urged them to vote massively for
the Speaker during the forthcoming election
so as to benefit more from her reservoir of
democracy dividends, when elected into
office.
The President General of Okpoko
Community, Hon. Linus Ezenwamma,
observed that the water will remain a
blessing to the people of Okpoko and
promised on their behalf to ensure the
proper maintenance of the project.
He warned miscreants and other political
parties who were invading Okpoko
Community, to desist, as the community is
for APGA.
In a welcome address, Little Miss Akanne
Favour of Kingdom of God Nursery/Primary
School, Okpoko , who itemized the exploits
of Speaker Nwaebili in the area to include
the donation of transformer to inhabitants of
Acha street, Iyiowa, donation of Skills
Acquisition Equipment to (CYON), Iyiowa
region, donation of motorcycles to Ogbaru
Catholic Youths, amongst others, observed
that it was high time the people of the area
reciprocated the gesture by voting massively
for Speaker Nwaebili.
The Ezza Ezekunna Welfare Association and
the Ward three community in Okpoko, were
not left out, as all attested to the
benevolence of Speaker Nwaewbili to
Okpoko Community, even, when she has not
started representing the area; and pledged
their unreserved support to Speaker
Nwaebili.
The highlight of the occasion was the
commissioning of the water project by
Speaker Nwaebili and display by a cultural
troupe.

Living
in the Goodness of God

God
Proves His Goodness through Your Prayers

By Rick Warren — February 24,
2019

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and
you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you"
(Matthew 7:7 NIV).

When you forget how eager God is to help you, it's easy
to start depending on yourself and to stop asking God for
his help and provision.
Perhaps you only ask God for the "big stuff" and not
the "small stuff." Guess what: Everything is small to
God. None of your requests are
big in God's eyes! He has every hair on your head
numbered, and he knows how many fell out in the sink this
morning.
You're not bothering God when you give him your
requests. He's the one who set up the system of prayer in
the first place. That's why the New
Testament tells us more than 20 times to ask for whatever we
need in prayer: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek
and you will find; knock and
the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7
NIV).
If it's big enough to worry about, it's big enough to
pray about. Worry won't solve it, but prayer will.
God grows your faith and trust the same way a parent
teaches a child to trust (Luke 11:13). First, the child
recognizes an unmet need. Second, the
child expresses that need. Third, the parent meets that
need.
God uses this same cycle to teach you how to trust him.
You have an unmet need. You express that unmet need to God.
God meets that need, and you
learn to trust him more. If you're not expressing your
needs to God, how can you grow in trust? That's the only
way you learn.
God proves his goodness when you ask. But you must wait
patiently for God's timing to deliver. God often does not
give immediate answers because
he wants to test your faith.
We learn to trust God by watching for the many ways he
meets our needs and answers our prayers. This reminds us
that God is reliable and can be
counted on.PLAY

Talk About It

What thoughts keep you from asking God for his help
(such as "I don't deserve God's goodness," "I need
to work hard first," or "God
is good but maybe not all the time")?
One of the main ways God tests our trust and our faith
is through money and finances. Why do you think this is
so?
What do you need help with today? Ask God for his help,
but start with expressing gratitude for what he's already
given you.

Living
in the Goodness of God

Hope
Is Anticipating God's Goodness

By Rick Warren — February 26,
2019

"I would have despaired unless I had
believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the
land of the living. Wait for the LORD;
Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the
LORD" (Psalm 27:13-14 NASB).
God has only good plans for your life. He does not have
bad plans for you—he never has and he never will. Yet a
lot of people miss God's plan
for their lives because they don't trust God. Instead,
they decide to follow their own plan, and in the end, that
leads to hopelessness and
pessimism.
The more you understand God's goodness, the more
hopeful you're going to be because hope is
anticipating God's goodness. The only
reason you have hope is because God is good. If God is not a
good God, there is no rational reason for
hope.
"I would have despaired unless I had believed that
I'd see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the
living. Wait for the Lord; Be strong
and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord"
(Psalm 27:13-14 NASB).
Everything God does for you, through you, to you, and in
you, he does because he is a good God. God's goodness in
your life isn't based on how
good you are. It's based on God's character, not
yours.
Everybody needs God's goodness. Everybody wants God's
goodness. But we have to understand and believe it to
experience it. In his goodness, he
blesses us with sustenance and balance, resilience and
guidance, confidence and assurance, influence and abundance,
benevolence and inheritance. He
makes it all available to his children because of his grace
and his good character.PLAY

Talk
About It

Why is it freeing to acknowledge that God's goodness
is based on his character and not yours?
What can you do while you are waiting on God to deliver
you from a difficult season? How can you gain courage as you
trust God during these
times?
How can you learn about and understand God's goodness
more?

Living
in the Goodness of God

Replace
Worry with Worship

By Rick Warren — February 27,
2019

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about
your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body,
what you will wear. Is not life
more than food, and the body more than clothes?"
(Matthew 6:25 NIV).
God is the source of everything you need to live. He is
the Good Shepherd who feeds, leads, and meets your needs.
You don't have to look anywhere
else. You don't have to look to Wall Street. You don't
have to look to the government. You don't have to look to
your spouse, your individual
retirement account, your Social Security, or your job.
If you're going to put your security in something, you
need to put it in something that can never be taken from
you. You can lose your health.
You can lose your job. You can lose your good looks. You can
lose your family. You can lose your life. You can lose your
mind. You can even lose your
way.
God, however, is never lost. And there is nothing you
need that God can't supply. Philippians 4:19 says,
"God will supply every need of
yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus"
(ESV).
So why do we worry so much? Worry may be the most common
sin on the planet. It is the direct result of forgetting
that God is good all the time.
You can pray, or you can panic. If you're not praying,
you're panicking. You can worry, or you can worship. If
you're not worshiping, you're
worrying. As soon as you invite worship in the front door,
worry goes out the back door.
The Bible says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry
about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your
body, what you will wear. Is
not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?"
(Matthew 6:25 NIV).
Clearly, God doesn't want you worrying about anything.
Yet it's hard for all of us to stop the worry habit.
It's just in our nature!
The best place to start is prayer. Once you've
recognized how worry keeps you from the goodness of God and
you've decided that you don't want
it to get the best of you, you can take things to God in
prayer instead.PLAY
today's audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>
Talk
About It

How has worry affected you physically? What about
emotionally? Spiritually?
When was the last time you worried about something? Five
minutes ago? Last week? Are you worried about something
right now?
Spend some time right now praying for the things you are
worrying about. What difference does it make?

Hiya writers,
I'm doing something different in 2019.
While I'm setting goals (big, audacious, hairy ones),
I'm not sharing them publicly.
Why?
When Sarah Blakely, self-made billionaire and
founder of Spanx, was first launching her product, she
didn't tell anyone about it. Not her family, not her
friends, not anyone she wasn't directly pitching it to.
Her dreams were big and because
they were so big, she knew she didn't have the belief
and the reserves yet to be able
to protect them from other people's opinions, criticisms
and fears.
I'm very open in my newsletters and
especially so in my Finishers community about my goals,
ambitions, and desires. I have an increasingly public image.
When I send out newsletters, I get dozens of emails from
people, often with their own viewpoints and agendas. Almost
always, I love and appreciate these viewpoints and welcome
them. But when it comes to our goals—our goals should
never be up for discussion.
When I first started as a freelancer, people
told me it was impossible to make a living as a freelancer
from India. When I did that, it was impossible to make six
figures. I've now done that too, and they're still
telling me that my goals are too ambitious, my dreams too
big, my desire too high.
Here's the thing: When you're failing,
people will tell you it's impossible. When you succeed,
they tell you that you got lucky.
Like Sarah Blakely, I 100% belief in my goals
and dreams, but at this point in my journey, I don't yet
have the reserves to defend those
goals, especially to people who have never truly witnessed
my will, my determination, or my talent. All those
viewpoints would do is that they'd threaten to introduce
conflict and doubt in my mind where it didn't exist
before. I'm not yet so solid in my goals to be able to
wave away that doubt.
We are all in charge of honoring, protecting,
and nurturing our dreams. Some of us do that—as I have
done in the past—by sharing, so that we can build
accountability and momentum. I now have professionals who
provide that for me—agents, editors, and coaches—and so
this year, I'm trying something new. I'm working
silently behind the scenes and really building my faith in
my goals and dreams without the added pressure of explaining
them.
I don't necessarily think one way is better
than the other, though I do believe that as you grow in your
journey, you'll be less inclined to share. But I am really
curious to see how my little experiment plays out and
whether this different energy leads to different results.
(If you're interested in why this works, check out this TED talk by Derek Sivers on
why you should keep your goals to yourself.)
Of course, once I have some data, I'll come
back and share what I learn.
What do you think? Are you a goal-sharer or
do you prefer to keep yours close to heart? I'd love to
know.
Cheers,
Mridu

Hiya writers,
Persistence isn't just about sending your
work out into the world, about knocking on doors, about
proving yourself to other people.
Persistence is often about continuing to
write even when it's difficult, sticking with a piece of
work even when it's not coming together, and proving
yourself to YOURSELF.
Persistence is the novelist who writes day
after day, even when the book has been revised nine times
and is still not working.
Persistence is the freelancer who keeps on
researching and reporting stories, even when there is no
sale on the horizon.
Persistence is the nonfiction book author who
keeps on self-publishing ebooks even when the numbers for
the ones before aren't impressive.
Persistence is the creative entrepreneur who
keeps finding new ways to reach readers even when many of
them make her uncomfortable.
Persistence isn't about doing things so
that other people will recognize your effort.
Persistence is about being the kind of person
who doesn't stop because it's so much effort.
Persistence isn't about reaching a point
where others believe in you. It's about learning how to
reach a point where your success isn't based on their
need to.
Cheers,
Mridu
